Can Dogs Eat Yorkshire Puddings?

Yes, dogs can safely eat yorkshire puddings. Yorkshire puddings are made from a batter consisting of flour, egg, milk and water, all of which are safe for dogs to eat. Although they are safe for dogs, yorkshire puddings have low nutritional value so should only be given to your dog as an occasional treat.

Are Yorkshire Puddings Bad for Dogs?

Although yorkshire puddings are safe for dogs in small doses, they are not a healthy option for your dog.

To make yorkshire puddings, batter is poured into circular moulds filled with oil and cooked in the oven. In general, cooking oil, butter and cooked fats are not good for dogs. Because of this yorkshires are best kept as an occasional treat rather than a regular part of your dogs diet.

Yorkshires are sometimes cooked with drippings instead of oil. Drippings are essentially animal fat which is high in sodium and very unhealthy for dogs. Yorkshire puddings cooked in drippings should never be fed to your dog.

Dog Allergic Reaction to Yorkshire Pudding

Yorkshire puddings are made from simple ingredients that most dogs can safely eat in small doses. Despite this they do contain ingredients that some dogs may be sensitive or allergic to.

Some dogs are sensitive or allergic to certain oils that are used to cook yorkshire puddings. Coconut oil is good for dogs but Vegetable oils can contain soybean or corn which some dogs are allergic to. Similarly, butter and peanut oil can give some dogs an upset stomach.

If your dog is lactose intolerant you should also avoid feeding them yorkshire puddings.

What to do if your Dog eats a Yorkshire Pudding

If your dog has eaten a yorkshire pudding and seems ill or is showing a change in behaviour it is best to consult your vet to mitigate the possibility of an allergic reaction.

Otherwise, if your dog doesn’t have any history of allergies and seems fine since eating the yorkshire pudding there is probably nothing to worry about as yorkshire puddings are safe for most dogs.
